Invitation to a talk by Nick Hamshaw, Head of the 1729 Maths School, Saturday 8 Nov in South Kensington

The London School of Mathematics and Programming is delighted to invite all interested parents to an exciting event where Mr Nick Hamshaw, the Founding Head of the 1729 Maths School, will be talking about this unique new school and its opportunities for talented young mathematicians. Mr Hamshaw will join the event on Saturday 8 November at 11.30AM at LondonSMP South Kensington, 65 Queens Gate, SW7.

The 1729 Maths School is the UK’s first specialist school for exceptional mathematicians aged 11-18. Based at Mill Hill Schools, it combines expert school teaching and university-style learning, with guidance from researchers and PhD mentors. Small class sizes mean that teachers know each student personally and understand how to challenge and inspire them. Admission is selective and needs-blind, with full and partial bursaries available for a wide range of income levels, ensuring that students can attend the school whatever their family’s financial circumstances. Learn more at 1729mathsschool.org.uk or follow this link to see the school’s brochure: 1729 brochure.

This half-term, 1729 Maths School is also inviting mathematicians aged 8-13 who love a challenge to test their skills against others across the country. Three winners will receive an incredible “Day in the Life of an Oxford Mathematician” experience, including an Oxford-style tutorial with Tom Crawford, a behind-the-scenes tour of an Oxford college and a visit to the university’s Mathematical Institute. The submission deadline is Sunday 2 November 2025. To find out more and enter the competition, visit https://1729mathsschool.org.uk/1729-maths-competition.
