Maple Walk School

62 Crownhill Rd, London NW10 4EB

Profile:  Maple Walk is a happy, successful and vibrant independent primary school, for girls and boys aged 4-11, in North West London. The closest tube station is Willesden Green, but pupils commute here from a wider area including West Hampstead, Queen’s Park and Kilburn. Maple Walk is committed to giving every child a first-class traditional education in the arts and sciences, drawing as a resource upon the Core Knowledge approach which imparts knowledge through traditional academic subjects. Maths is taught using the Inspire Maths series based on the successful Singapore Maths approach.

It has a friendly, well-resourced environment with low pupil to teacher ratios. Opportunities outside the classroom abound. Through sporting activities and music, art and drama, the School encourage every child to discover their own particular talents.
Pupils do much of their PE off site at the Green Flag Awarded Roundwood Park. In recent years, they have enjoyed particular success with their Cross Country and regular represent their area at national school competitions.
The School consider the relationship between school and parents to be very important, where an open policy of reporting and dialogue is essential.
The key impressions that many visitors to Maple Walk remark upon are the openness, friendliness and happiness of both staff and children.

Their aim is that children leave Maple Walk confident and articulate, with the knowledge that they have achieved their academic and personal potential with an excellent work ethic, ready for the next phase of their education.
Since a picture is worth a thousand words, we recommend watching the school film if you want to gain a better impression of the school:

Maple Walk School was inspected by the ISI in March 2020 and rated “excellent” in all areas. The report highlighted that “pupils’ exemplary attitudes to their learning are supported by excellent teaching which enables them to become highly effective learners”.

Admissions: Maple Walk is non-selective at Reception entry and pupils are offered places on a first-come, first-serve basis. Places in subsequent years require a parent interview, a taster session with the child and a positive report from the pupil’s previous school. The registration fee (as of March 2019) is £130. As this is the most successful prep school in the wider area, early registration is highly recommended.

Exit results: Boys and girls leave at 11+. Pupils gain places at a wide range of selective and non-selective independent and state schools. The schools vary year on year and a full list can be found on the school’s website, however, offers for the 2020 leavers include: Aldenham, City of London, Emanuel, Godolphin & Latymer, Queen’s College, Latymer Upper, John Lyon, South Hampstead School, North Bridge House, University School College (UCS) Belmont Mill Hill Prep School, Wetherby Prep, Francis Holland, St James Senior Girls and Maida Vale in the private sector, and St Marylebone, Queen Elizabeth Boys (Grammar) in the state sector.
