Six students from Kensington Wade School have taken their GCSE five years early and achieved exceptional results. The students, many of whom have no Chinese background, have taken their Mandarin GCSE in Year 6.
Kensington Wade School in Hammersmith is an independent bilingual prep school that teaches in both Mandarin and English. The school reports that many pupils make exceptional progress in Mandarin, including those with no prior exposure to the language. Last year, several pupils achieved Grade 9, the highest possible GCSE grade, in Mandarin while in Year 5. Many more students this year chose to take their Mandarin GCSE in Year 6.
Huw May, Head of Kensington Wade, commented: “The gifts of a bilingual education are so clear to see. The bilingual brain increases the mental flexibility of the pupils and the ability to switch between tasks, coupled with superb problem-solving skills, gives them an academic advantage.
We empower happy children to be at their best and take on the exciting challenges of life. Being able to take a GCSE at such a young age is a great example of this”
Congratulations to the school and all candidates!
