St John’s Wood Pre-Prep

St John’s Hall, Lord’s Roundabout, London NW8 7NE

Profile: Happiness is at the heart of the philosophy at St. John’s Wood Pre-Prep School, and it works. This small school, described by owner and Principal, Adrian Ellis as feeling more like a private members club, specialises in the 7+ entrance tests. The school is immensely proud of the 2018 Year 2 pupils for their outstanding results. Of the 11 children in the class, two girls will go to City of London School for girls, one to South Hampstead High School. Two boys will head to St Paul’s Juniors, four to UCS and to to Westminster Under School.

With a friendly and caring environment as its strength for three-to-seven year-old boys and girls, the School has an excellent staff to pupil ratio, allowing each child to reach their potential. “Of course, together with parents, we look to establish each child’s unique and particular talents and aim to develop them as fully as possible,” said Mr Ellis.

Situated in and around the landmark building of St John’s Wood Church, the sense of a whole-school community is evident in this small school. Parents are offered various work-shops to ensure continuity and invited to social functions including a quiz night and the fathers’ Pint & Pie night (of course, everyone is welcome). By limiting its numbers, most children know the rest of their fellow pupils throughout the School – an important element in building confidence and developing social skills. The School aims to become an extension of home and family to support parents and children alike.

Entry into Nursery is non-selective and on a first-come-first served basis. Parents have high expectations of the School. Mr Ellis points out this is a two-way Street, “Equally, we have high expectations of our parents. This combination is the recipe for success”.

Following this year’s excellent results, St John’s Wood Pre-Prep remains a recommended feeder to many of London’s top prep schools.

Exit Results: The school is immensely proud of the 2018 Year 2 pupils for their outstanding results.
